The Auto World Vintage Car Museum, located on the eastern outskirts of Ahmedabad, houses a large collection of classic automobiles, some from the early 20th century. Set in a crenelated building, which resembles a castle on a large private estate, the museums’ collection was once privately owned by local automobile enthusiast Pranlal Bhogilal. Car fans won’t want to miss this niche-interest museum if visiting Ahmedabad.
The basics
The Auto World Vintage Car Museum’s 300-vehicle collection includes many international luxury cars, from the likes of Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Cadillac, Jaguar, and more. Although there’s nothing specifically Indian about the collection, visitors can see a car that featured in the 1982 movie Gandhi, starring Ben Kingsley. Gandhi himself lived in Ahmedabad for a long time.
Most travelers visit independently, but you can request to include the museum if booking a private, customized tour of Ahmedabad.

How to get there
The museum is located on a large country estate at Kathwada, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) east of central Ahmedabad. You’ll probably need to make a special trip out here as there aren’t any other notable attractions nearby. Getting a taxi from central Ahmedabad or Ahmedabad Junction Railway Station will take about 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
When to get there
The museum is open every day except Monday, from early morning until late evening. The late closing time means you can fit in a visit after a busy day sightseeing elsewhere. Most people prefer to visit Ahmedabad between October and March, when the climate is cooler.
