POINT OF INTEREST

Beauval Zoo (ZooParc de Beauval)

Avenue du Blanc, Saint-Aignan, Centre-Val de Loire, 41110

With more than 800 species housed across 100 acres (45 hectares), Beauval Zoo (ZooParc de Beauval) is one of France’s premier zoos. Learn about biodiversity and conservation as you explore the Equatorial Dome; stroll the Great South American Aviary skyway; and observe animals from above in glass-floored gondolas.

The basics

Considered one of the most beautiful zoos in the world, the family-friendly Beauval Zoo is home to an estimated 25,000 animals. Explore its many open-air and enclosed habitats that host animals ranging from African lions to tropical birds. Take in presentations scheduled throughout the day to learn more about the animals and their care; watch raptors soar in free flight; and admire the animals from above via suspended walkways and cable cars.

Things to know before you go

  • Admission tickets include entrance to the park, plus all shows and presentations, the skywalk, and the gondola inside.

  • The zoo is spread over a vast area and most of the wildlife areas are outdoors, so wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.

  • There are 16 different eateries, from snack bars to sit-down restaurants, inside the zoo. Picnics are not allowed, but there’s a picnic area just outside the entrance.

  • Beauval Zoo offers a number of daily activities and presentations for children, plus activity books, playgrounds, interactive education stations, changing areas, and stroller rental.

  • There’s wheelchair rental, accessible visitor routes and restrooms, plus ramps and reserved areas in the amphitheaters.

How to get there

The ZooParc de Beauval is located near the town of Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher, about two hours south of Paris. You can drive and park in the zoo’s free parking areas or take the train to Blois—the shuttle from the train station to the zoo runs from spring through fall. Alternatively, book a day trip with included transport.

When to get there

Though the zoo is open daily year-round, most of the habitats are outdoors so choose a clear, mild day to visit, to see the animals at their most active. Different shows, activities, and educational presentations are held each day, so check the zoo website to confirm the schedule for the day of your visit.

Things to see at the Beauval Zoo

It’ll take you an entire day to cover Beauval Zoo. To make the most of your time, focus on the most innovative habitats, including the Great South American Aviary, the Equatorial Dome, and the Australian Greenhouse. Be sure to catch the Odyssey of the Sea Lions and Air Masters shows, as well as the educational presentations held three times each day.
