The Basics

The Blackpool Tower Dungeon brings together actors, special effects, stages, and scenes for a walk-through interactive experience that is fun and just a little scary. The journey begins by descending into the dungeon on a creaky medieval elevator; visitors then encounter a plague doctor, torturer, judge, and cluster of witches before arriving at “Drop Dead,” a 26-foot (7.9-meter) drop tower that simulates being executed by hanging as a crowd jeers. After all that, you can calm your nerves with a drink at the dungeon’s pub, the Red Lion.

Things to Know Before You Go

• Blackpool Tower Dungeon is a must-visit for families with older children.

• Height restrictions apply for “Drop Dead.”

• The site is wheelchair-accessible, although some surfaces are uneven.

How to Get There

Located at the bottom of the Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Tower Dungeon is within easy walking distance of many major hotels and attractions. Buses number 1, 5, 7, 10, and 14 stop outside, or you can take a tram to the Tower stop. There is no parking at the tower.

When to Get There

Blackpool Tower Dungeon is open every day, from morning to early evening, except on December 25. Early morning and late afternoon are typically the quietest times to visit, especially on weekdays outside of school holidays. The full walk-through takes 60 minutes.

Lates (18+)

On select nights throughout the year, the Blackpool Tower Dungeon reopens at 8pm for an adults-only experience that includes bawdier shows you won’t see during the day. Guests also receive two free drinks, as well as a souvenir guidebook.
