Cacimbinhas Beach
Tibau do Sul, Rio Grande do Norte, 59178-000
Of Brazil’s many beaches, Cacimbinhas (Praia das Cacimbinhas) is a quieter one—accessible by walking down a long staircase—and a popular spot for windsports such as kitesurfing and paragliding. On the northeastern coast, near Natal, the beach is framed by tall cliffs, which overlook a sprawling shoreline, turquoise waters, and sand dunes.
The basics
At almost 3 miles (5 kilometers) long, Cacimbinhas offers expansive views of the Brazilian coast between Tibau do Sul and Pipa. Walking down steps to the beach grants visitors a private, secluded experience. Others explore the Atlantic Forest or the red sand dunes for which the beach is named. With its lack of crowds, the remote beach is a favorite for those seeking a calm respite. When conditions allow, surfing and swimming are popular activities.
Things to know before you go
Only experienced swimmers should swim at Cacimbinhas.
The beach’s cliff walls provide a base for hang gliding, and the dunes are a popular spot for sandboarding.
You can reach Cacimbinhas via guided buggy tours.
Don't miss the nearby Guaraíras lagoon at sunset.
How to get there
Cacimbinha Beach can be reached by walking along the sand from Praia de Madeiro or Tibau do Sul. It is also possible to access the beach by walking down the staircase in front of the Pipa Privilege property, which is situated at the top of a cliff. The stairs are open to the public, with no admission fee.
When to get there
Brazil’s high season, December–March, is a festive time to visit thanks to Carnaval. Expect large crowds at popular beach destinations for the festive season. The months between April and October are considered the best time, weather-wise, to visit the beaches. That’s when you’ll experience warm, dry days, particularly in the northern part of the country.
Pipa Beach (Praia da Pipa)
To experience more of the area's beach scene, check out Pipa Beach. Known as one of the most famous beaches in Brazil, Pipa Beach is a popular spot for surfers and backpackers, as well as locals, providing a mix of natural beauty and bustling streets filled with bars, restaurants, and stores. It’s about a 90-minute drive from the city of Natal.
