POINT OF INTEREST

Children's Museum of the Lowcountry (CML)

25 Ann St., Charleston, SC, 29403

The Children's Museum of the Lowcountry’s mission is to provide a creative and innovative space for families to discover the power of play. The nonprofit organization offers little ones nine interactive rooms, each with its own theme. From art to science, fantasy to horticulture, this hands-on museum allows kids’ imaginations to run wild.

The basics

Start your family’s journey in the Art Studio, where children can choose from different stations designed to spark creative expression through sculpture, painting, and mixed media. You can also head to the Pirate Ship—offering a dress-up pirate adventure—and go for gardening activities in the backyard. The museum also has a special play space dedicated to toddlers and babies.

Things to know before you go

  • All adults must remain with their children through the entirety of their visit.

  • It’s best to start your visit in the Art Studio, so that your paintings have enough time to dry before you leave.

  • All paint in the Art Studio washes out, but smocks are provided for extra protection.

  • Admission is free for children under the age of 1.

How to get there

There are several bus stops about a block away from the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry, but if you have a little one in tow, it might be best to drive. While there is no on-site parking, there are metered parking spaces, as well as the Visitor’s Center and Camden/Exchange Parking Garages for a small hourly fee.

When to get there

The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry is open every day except Tuesday; it's also closed on some holidays. The museum also has mornings set aside for kids with special needs every second and fourth Sunday; check ahead for the latest updates.
