Cinque Torri
Cortina d’Ampezzo, Belluno, 32043
In northeastern Italy, close to the Austrian border, the Dolomites form a stunning mountain range of jagged peaks, dramatic spires, and picturesque valleys. The Cinque Torri–a group of five tower-like rocks outside the town of Cortina d’Ampezzo—is one of the most famous attractions in the Dolomites and offers an array of outdoor recreation opportunities.
The Basics
VAn ideal spot for skiing, climbing, and hiking, the Cinque Torri is a year-round destination. Discover the dramatic scenery of the Cinque Torri on a guided ski tour from Cortina d'Ampezzo, or explore the region with snowshoes or cross-country skis.
In summer, hike the circular path around the Cinque Torri and view the remnants of Italian trenches and artifacts from World War I. The popular Alta Via 1 trekking route passes right through Cinque Torri and several refugios (Italian mountain huts) offer plenty to eat and drink, as well as a place to stay on the mountain.
Things to Know Before You Go
Cinque Torri is one of the most scenic areas in the Dolomites, and a must-visit for winter sports enthusiasts, hikers, climbers, and photographers.
Ski runs and hiking trails are available for all ages and abilities.
Cinque Torri also offers many beginner-friendly bolted climbing routes.
Hike to the Nuvolau Rifugio for some of the best views of the Dolomites.
Visit the Museo Della Grande Guerra to learn more about the region’s World War I history.
How to Get There
The Cinque Torri area is located 10.5 miles (17 kilometers) from Cortina d’Ampezzo. Convenient bus services run from nearby villages, and a ski-bus service connects visitors to all area lifts. The Cinque Torri area is just a short walk from the Cinque Torri Refuge, which can be reached via car or shuttle bus, or on foot from surrounding trails.
When to Get There
The Dolomites are stunning at any time of year. To avoid the summer tourist crowds, visit in May, June, or fall. Wildflowers are spectacular in early June, and fall colors often peak in mid-October. Ski season runs from early-December through the first week of April, with best snow conditions occurring in January and February.
What to do in the Dolomites
After enjoying Cinque Torri, there are lots more things to see and do in the Dolomites. Renowned as a world-class climbing and mountaineering destination, you can also explore on foot, by bike, or by raft (in the summer months). And, of course, you can even stay overnight in one of the many Alpine huts that dot this snowy and spectacular region.
