Corfu Aquarium
Nat'l Rd, Palaiokastritsa, Greece, 490 83
Walls of underwater tanks are home to an abundance of Mediterranean sea life at the Corfu Aquarium in Paleokastritsa. Displays showcase fish and sea creatures from the region’s waters, including octopuses, seahorses, and sea urchins, that are highly likely to entertain visitors of all ages. Reptiles and amphibians feature too, as do far-flung creatures, such as the adorable axolotl.
The basics
With a general ticket to the aquarium, visitors receive a guided tour of the exhibits and are free to look around as long as they like. Due to the size of the aquarium, most will find that one hour is plenty of time to see its exhibits. While you’re in Paleokastritsa, you can spend time at the village’s many beaches, walk up to viewpoints, and visit the hilltop Monastery of Paleokastritsa.
Things to know before you go
The guided tour of the aquarium is included free of charge with all entry tickets.
Tickets are more expensive when bought in person rather than online.
The aquarium is accessible for wheelchair users.
Photos are permitted inside the aquarium without the use of flash.
How to get there
You will find the Corfu Aquarium in the village of Paleokastritsa, just off Agios Petros Beach. Take the A9 Green Bus from the KTEL Green Bus Terminal in Corfu Town to Paleokastritsa; the journey lasts around 45 minutes. Travelers who come by car can park in a paid parking lot just beside the aquarium.
When to get there
The Corfu Aquarium is open daily during regular business hours, but the last entry for visitors is 30 minutes before closing. Tickets to the aquarium are for specific time slots, so be sure to arrive for your allocated time. Expect the aquarium to be busier during the summer months, which is Corfu’s high season, and for morning visits to be generally quieter.
Sea life at the Corfu Aquarium
Visiting the Corfu Aquarium allows you to see creatures native to Corfu’s coast or the wider Mediterranean without diving down to spot them. Species such as the sea bass and grouper may not sound that exotic, but the lionfish, red scorpion fish, and longsnout seahorse certainly are. Watch out for the deep color of the Mediterranean red sea star, which is only found selectively around Europe.
