Daming Lake, continuously fed by natural springs, is one of Jinan’s most defining landmarks. The city’s largest lake, with Lixia Pavilion in its center, is surrounded by willow trees. Over centuries, Daming Lake has been the inspiration for authors, artists, poets, and scholars. Invite inspiration as you wander among temples, pavilions, gardens, and scenic bridges.
The basics
Visitors often stop by Daming Lake on tours of Jinan city, which usually also see the babbling Black Tiger Spring, tranquil Baotu Spring Park, and pedestrianized Furong Ancient Street for shopping and lunch. The lake has a long history, dating from the Qing Dynasty, so a guided tour can bring that story to life. After visiting several temples and pavilions with your guide, wander around the park or hop on a boat for a little cruise.

How to get there
Most people in Jinan can direct you to Daming Lake since it is a top attraction in the city's center. Hop on one of several public buses to get there, or hire a taxi to take the hassle out of figuring out public transportation. Write down the Chinese name of Daming Lake to show your driver, and bring your hotel card.
When to get there
Aim for spring or fall to visit Daming Lake. Summers are hot, and winters can get chilly. You want to enjoy the garden, so it is best to go when the temperatures are pleasant. Keep in mind that Chinese New Year and the first weeks of May and October are public holidays, so tourist sites are quite busy.
Why visit Furong Ancient Street
When in Jinato, stop at Furong Ancient Street for souvenirs and local food. This street has been a commercial hot spot for more than 2,000 years. It was renovated in 2006 to make it more tourist-friendly. Dotted with red lanterns and inviting restaurant staff, it makes for a fun way to spend your time in Jinan browsing and sampling treats such as fried silkworms and stinky tofu.
