Dancing Fountains

Batumi, GA

Blending water, light, and music into a mesmerizing show, Batumi’s Dancing Fountains are some of the city’s most dazzling attractions. Located in three places in the city, including on an ornamental lake along the southern part of Batumi Boulevard, these fountains are beloved local landmarks and a must-see for travelers who are seeking a magical evening in Georgia’s Black Sea resort.

The basics

The Dancing Fountains come alive after sunset, with water jets of different colors moving in synchronized patterns, choreographed to a range of musical works by Georgian and international artists. Local families and visitors alike gather to watch the fountains perform. The best place to view them is along the shore of Ardagani Lake, which offers the chance to stroll around the water to see the dancing fountains from multiple perspectives. Sightseeing tours by foot or Segway will take you past the fountains during the daytime.

Things to know before you go

  • Viewing the Dancing Fountains is free of charge.
  • Seating is available along the lakeside.
  • It’s possible to watch the fountains from surrounding bars and restaurants.
  • More fountains can be found at the northern end of Batumi Boulevard and in Europe Square, both a short walk away.

How to get there

The Dancing Fountains are all within a short walking distance of one another. The best known is near Ardagani Lake, at the southern end of Batumi Boulevard, which follows the city’s waterfront from the Batumi Alphabet Tower all the way to the Çoruh river. The fountains are within walking distance of major hotels and landmarks.

When to get there

The fountains generally run from around dusk till late into the night, and the spectacle typically starts on the hour and lasts 30 minutes. The warm nights of summer, with their festive atmosphere, are the most popular times to visit. While the show can be enjoyed any time of night, catching it during the golden hour, just as the sun sets, adds an extra touch of magic.

Batumi’s sculptures

Batumi Boulevard is dotted with sculptures, and the most recognizable is the kinetic pair of Ali and Nino, 26-foot (8-meter) high steel figures of a woman and man. The two moving figures slowly pass through each other and gradually become one every 10 minutes. Created by Georgian artist Tamara Kvesitadze, the sculpture was inspired by the novel Ali and Nino by the Azerbaijani writer Kurban Said.
