The basics

Duff House has taken on many identities over the years. In the 20th century, it served as a hotel, prisoner-of-war camp, and sanatorium. Since its refurbishment, Duff House once again draws visitors for its impressive architecture and art galleries, as well as for scenic walks along the River Deveron. Guests interested in history may benefit from the Historic Scotland Explorer Pass, offering free entry to over 75 attractions across the country.

Duff House is in Banff, on the northeast coast of Scotland. The nearest city is Aberdeen, which is about a 1-hour drive away. Most visitors arrive by car, and there's free parking on-site.

When to get there

This architectural landmark is open year-round, with longer hours from April to October and limited hours from November to March. The summer months are the most popular time of year for international travelers to Scotland, and extended daylight in the evening makes it especially attractive. In addition to the art that lines the galleries of Duff House, this landmark is also home to a collection of antique furniture. Complete your visit by making an appointment to also view the house’s Dunimarle Library, which holds over 4,000 rare volumes.
