Frigate Bay
St Kitts, St. Kitts
Located about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) from Basseterre, Frigate Bay along the Atlantic Ocean is one of the most popular beaches on St. Kitts. During the day, activity buzzes with water sports (windsurfing, kayaking, and jet skiing), and beach volleyball. After nightfall beach bars showcase live music, dancing, and bonfires. Every year in June, the bay hosts the St. Kitts Music Festival.
The Basics
The bay’s south side is marked by high-end hotels and mansions lining the beach alongside a string of beachfront bars, known collectively as “The Strip''. The beaches are more serene on the north side, with a long reef that creates calm waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Frigate Bay is a stop on most half-day and full-day sightseeing tours.
Some tours include stops in Basseterre and charming surrounding hamlets, while others go to Bloody River and Bloody Point to learn about the Carib Indians or Brimstone Hill Fortress to learn about the island’s colonial history. For an added adventure, hop on an ATV to explore the island's sugar cane fields, bounding over volcanic hillsides and across the grounds of a 16th-century estate that once produced tobacco and rum.

How to Get There
Frigate Bay is located on the southeast peninsula on the island of St. Kitts, about 2 miles (4 kilometers) from the capital of Basseterre. From anywhere in the city, driving is best since buses do not go directly there. Buses only operate on the main roads of the city, so if you are planning to get around, rent a car or take a taxi.
When to Get There
Establishments in Frigate Bay are generally open daily from morning until night; beach bars are open late at night until early morning the next day. Frigate Bay has a consistent climate year-round, with pleasant temperatures and regular drizzles that keep vegetation lush and green. Beat the crowds by traveling here in the spring and fall shoulder seasons. During hurricane season, June to November, there may be limited ships and ferries.
St. Kitts Scenic Railway Train
More popularly known as the Sugar Train, the St. Kitts Scenic Railway Train takes visitors on a 3-hour tour covering a 30-milexa0 (48-kilometer) circle around the island. Traveling through the villages and old sugar cane plantations, the double-decker train has an open observation platform perfect for panoramic views. Guests are accompanied by the conductor who narrates the history of key attractions around the island. The fee includes complimentary drinks and entertainment.
