POINT OF INTEREST

Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park

2800 Post Oak Blvd., Houston, Texas

Some 23,500 gallons of water per minute gush over a silver semicircular 64-foot (20-meter) wall known as the Williams Waterwall. The sculptural fountain sits in Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park, a 3-acre (1.2-hectare) green area shaded by more than 100 Texas live oak trees. It’s become a popular backdrop for both Houston locals and tourists.

The Williams Waterwall might just be Houston’s most photographed spot, and for good reason. Due to its popularity, especially as a photo op, the Waterfall features on many sightseeing tours of Houston, along with other noteworthy attractions, like Minute Maid Park, Space Center Houston, Rice University, and Hermann Park. Book a private city tour to ensure the Waterwall is included on your itinerary. In front of the waterwall is a stone wall with a triangular pointed top and three open arch doorways. Walk through the archways for a closeup view of the impressive fountain.

  • The Williams Waterwall is one of Houston’s best photo ops—a must-see for first time visitors.
  • Climbing on the structure or playing in the water are not permitted.
  • Leashed pets are welcome at the park.

The Williams Waterwall is in Uptown Houston near the Galleria shopping mall. Paid parking is available at the Williams Tower parking garage, or you can walk from the Galleria and its free parking facilities.

The park is open daily from 8am to 9pm and is best visited on a clear day. At night, it becomes a popular place for couples as the illuminated fountain enhances the romantic ambience. The spray from the fountain offers a cooling relief on a hot summer afternoon.

The Waterwall was originally built as part of the adjacent Williams Tower (then Transco Tower) before the city purchased the park in 2008. The height of the Waterwall symbolizes the 64 stories of the tower, the tallest in the Galleria area and one of Houston’s most recognizable landmarks.
