Ginuciai Water Mill
Ginučių 24, Road 1423, Ginučiai, 30222
A historical gem set inside Lithuania’s Aukstaitija National Park, the Ginuciai Water Mill embodies a fascinating slice of the country’s rural past. Located above the Srove River in the hamlet of Ginuciai, visitors visit this 19th-century mill-turned-museum to see its restored machinery, connect with its past, and enjoy the idyllic river scenery.
The basics
Nestled amid Aukstaitija’s remote forests and lakes, the Ginuciai Water Mill offers a rare chance to discover what life was like in rural Lithuania during the late 19th century. Visitors go inside the rustic wooden mill for guided tours of its original machinery, which was meticulously restored in the late 20th century. From there, they can explore an upper-floor exhibition of old prints and artifacts. It chronicles how locals harnessed the river waters to grind flour for bread and, later, generate electricity for the village.
After exploring the mill, visitors can take time to enjoy the scenery, perhaps paddling or bathing in the river or relaxing at the riverbank picnic area.
Things to know before you go
The Ginuciai Water Mill will appeal to history enthusiasts, foodies, and anyone interested in old-time Lithuania.
The mill is only open in summer, from May to September.
Guided tours of the interior run at fixed intervals during the day.
Bring wet shoes to paddle near the mill—the riverbed is stony.
How to get there

Public buses run directly to Ginuciai from Ignalina a few times daily and take around 40 minutes.

The water mill is typically open from 10am–6pm Tuesday through Sunday, from the start of May to the end of September. However, it’s wise to verify the exact opening hours before making any long journeys to the mill, as times are subject to change every year.
