Golden Cape Forest Park

The basics

Golden Cape Forest Park was originally designed as a health resort by entrepreneur Georg Hütterott, and although his plans never came to be, rest and leisure remain the main things to do in this large, unofficial arboretum. You can visit the park on cycling tours that explore its trails, kayak tours that paddle into its coves, or simply spend time swimming and soaking up the sun on its beaches.

Things to know before you go

• Most beaches and swimming spots around Golden Cape Forest Park require climbing stairs or over rocks, meaning they’re generally not easily accessible.

• The park is popular with rock climbers, with an established climbing location in its northwest.

• There are few places to get food, with just one bar and one restaurant.

• There are a number of play areas for children.

How to get there

Golden Cape Forest Park is situated on a headland south of Rovinj Old Town and Rovinj Marina, a 5-minute drive from the town center. Visitors without a car can walk from Rovinj along the waterfront to the park in around 30 minutes. A large parking lot sits at the entrance.

When to get there

Although Golden Cape Forest Park is always open, it’s very much a place to go during Rovinj’s warmer months from April to October. Swimming at the beaches is best left to the summer months of July to September when the cool Adriatic water offers welcome relief. Expect the park to be busier on weekends and afternoons as it’s a popular spot with locals and tourists alike.

Visitors will find places to swim right around Golden Cape Forest Park. Lone Bay on the park’s north coast has some of the nicest pebble beaches and is also home to Aquapark Lone Rovinj, an area designed for kids with inflatable slides.
