Grindelwald Swiss Village
Grindelwald, Tasmania, 7277
Offering a taste of Switzerland on the opposite side of the world, Northern Tasmania’s Grindelwald Swiss Village is an actual residential village as well as a tourist destination with eateries, attractions for kids, and shopping at the Tamar Valley Resort. Built in the 1980s by a Dutch businessman, Grindelwald is modeled on a Swiss town of the same name.
The basics
Around 1,000 people reside in Grindelwald Swiss Village, living in houses built in traditional Swiss fashion. Many more tourists visit Grindelwald each year, coming to the Tamar Valley Resort within Grindelwald. Visitors can play at the resort’s 10-hole golf course or the 18-hole miniature golf course, go paddle boating or canoeing on the lake, eat, and shop. Most visitors come on a day trip from Launceston or stay overnight in one of the resort’s hotel suites, villas, or chalets.
Things to know before you go

- Kids will love Grindelwald. As well as the mini golf course, there’s a huge bouncing pillow to play on, said to be the world’s longest.
- Overnight guests of the Tamar Valley Resort can use the gym and indoor pool.
