Learn about more than 5,000 years of local history and culture at the Guangzhou Museum, located inside Zhenhai Tower in Yuexiu Park. Built in 1380, the 5-story Zhenhai Tower is a historic landmark of old Guangzhou. Today, it houses nearly 1,000 exhibits illustrating the city’s development and offers spectacular views over the city.
The Basics
Explore the development of Guangzhou, and changes in cultures and customs, through the exhibits in Zhenhai Tower, which are arranged in rough chronological order from bottom to top. Find a model of ancient Guangzhou on the first floor and relics of the different ages and dynasties, from Neolithic to the Qing Dynasty and post–Opium War era, on floors two through five. Special exhibitions are held from time to time in the eastern part of the tower. In front of the tower stand two sandstone lions, 12 ancient cannons, and a number of historic stone tablets.
A number of sightseeing tours include a stop at Yuexiu Park and Zhenhai Tower, in addition to other top city sites, such as Six Banyan Temple, Chen Clan Ancestral Hall–Folk Craft Museum, or Shamian Island.

How to Get There
Zhenhai Tower and the Art Gallery are located inside Yuexiu Park. Take metro line 2 to Yuexiu Park (exit A) or a bus to nearby Xiaobei Huaquan Station or Yingyuan Road Station.
When to Get There
Zhenhai Tower is open daily from 9am to 5:30pm, with the last admission 30 minutes before closing time. Many visitors combine a visit to Zhenhai Tower with a visit to the Guangzhou Art Gallery nearby.
Other Parts of the Guangzhou Museum
Over time, the Guangzhou Museum has expanded to include four parts. In addition to Zhenhai Tower, the museum also includes the Art Gallery (covering artwork as well as natural history and paleontology), also located in Yuexiu Park, and the Memorial of the Anti-British Invasion of Sanyuanli People and the Memorial of the March 29 Uprising Headquarters, located elsewhere in the city.
