Gwangalli Beach

Gwanganhaebyeon-ro, Busan, South Korea

Offering a mile (1.4 kilometers) of silky sand, Busan’s Gwangalli Beach is a popular seaside destination for locals and tourists alike. In addition to being one of Busan's top swimming locales, the beach is also a go-to spot for nightlife, art installations, live music, and shopping. Day or night, Gwangalli Beach offers amusement for all.

The basics

During the day, most visitors come to Gwngalli Beach to bask in the sun, swim in the refreshing waters, or stroll along the promenade. Numerous beachfront cafes and restaurants offer a variety of cuisines and panoramic views. Gwangalli Beach is also popular at night, especially on Saturdays when the Gwangalli M Drone Light Show occurs. Many nighttime tours include a stop at the beach so you can admire the illuminated Gwangandaegyo Bridge.

Things to know before you go

  • The beach area offers facilities such as showers and restrooms for your convenience.

  • Remember to bring sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun, especially during the hotter months.

  • If you're in town the last week of October, Gwangalli Beach is the perfect vantage point to watch the Busan International Fireworks Festival.

How to get there

Getting to Gwangalli Beach is straightforward, whether traveling by public or private transportation. From Busan Station, you can take the subway to Gwangan Station (Line 2) and then walk to the beach just a short distance away. Alternatively, taxis are readily available throughout the city and provide a hassle-free way to reach the beach.

When to get there

If you’re in Busan to enjoy the sun and sand, visit Gwangalli Beach between June and August for optimal swimming weather. Waters remain warm enough from September and August for a pleasant swim. If you prefer mild weather and smaller crowds, spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are ideal.

See Busan’s attractions in their illuminated splendor

Some argue that Korea’s second–largest city is at its most beautiful after the sun goes down. So, after your day of gazing out at the Yellow Sea from the beach, gaze back at Busan on a nighttime cruise. Throughout the leisurely aquatic adventure, you enjoy postcard-worthy vantage points of landmarks you might not glance at during daylight hours, including Nurimaru APEC House, Centrum City, Igidae Park, and Oryukdo Island.
