How to Get There
Hardknott Fort is situated in Eskdale in Cumbria’s Lake District. If you’re coming from the east, follow the A593 then turn right and follow the signs for Little Langdale. From the west, turn off the A595 to Eskdale, then follow the road past Beckfoot and Boot. The mountain pass that leads to Hardknott Roman Fort is difficult to travest; if you’d rather avoid driving, go as part of a tour instead.

Hardknott Roman Fort is accessible seven days a week, 24 hours a day, The fort attracts most visitors in summer, though even then, it’s never crowded. Pick a clear day for the best views of the valley and the Lakeland fells.
