Helix Bridge

Marina Bay, Singapore

Garlanded in an angular metal framework that mimics the double helix shape of DNA, Singapore’s pedestrian Helix Bridge spans Marina Bay, linking the Bayfront and Esplanade areas. The letters A, C, G, and T, which represent the four basic building blocks of DNA, are set into the bridge, while viewing platforms offer photo opportunities.

The basics

Spectacular by night, when brightly colored lights illuminate the double helix structure to futuristic effect, the Helix Bridge is also striking by day. At 920 feet (280 meters) long, it’s easy to stroll across, and a range of Marina Bay area walking tours visit here. But you can also experience it by bicycle or e-scooter, admire it from land on a supercar, take a “duck” tour to glide by in an amphibious vehicle, or follow in the footsteps of the Crazy Rich Asians cast on a movie-themed tour.

Things to know before you go

  • The Helix Bridge is barrier-free and stroller-friendly.
  • The canopy sections provide shade but don’t protect against rain.
  • The best night photo angle is from the Esplanade side, looking across to the lotus-shaped ArtScience Museum and Marina Bay Sands’ three towers, and SkyPark.

How to get there

The Helix Bridge connects the Bayfront area—home to the Marina Bay Sands hotel and entertainment complex—with the Esplanade area, where Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is located. The Bayfront end is about a 0.5-mile (800-meter) walk south of Promenade MRT station (Downtown line); the Marina Bay end is about a 0.5-mile (800-meter) walk north of Bayfront MRT (Downtown and Circle lines).

When to get there

The Helix Bridge is open day and night but looks best after dark. It’s rarely crowded, even during rush hour.

Singapore’s Most Instagrammable Spots

Paired with the ArtScience Museum and Marina Bay Sands, the Helix Bridge is one of Singapore’s top selfie locations.
