POINT OF INTEREST

Hobart Zoo and Aquarium

620 Middle Tea Tree Road, Richmond, Tasmania, 7025

Aussie’s most memorable creatures and critters can be found at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium, along with exotic animals and rare and endangered species from around the globe. The small family-friendly park is popular among animal lovers and provides the opportunity to see Tasmanian devils, kangaroos, koalas, and emus, without leaving Hobart.

The Basics

There’s plenty for animal enthusiasts to do at Zoodoo Wildlife Park. Learn about Tasmanian devils, meerkats, zebras, lions, and more during the daily zookeeper talks and presentations. Stroll through the walk-in aviary to admire the parrots, doves, and other birds, and interact with farmyard animals, including alpacas, ponies, sheep, and rabbits at Hill Top Farm.

“Zookeeper for a day” experiences provide an opportunity to learn more about the zoo, help to feed some of the animals, and learn more about their care under the supervision of the zookeepers.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Admission tickets for Zoodoo Wildlife Park include the daily talks and feeding demonstrations.
  • Tickets can also be combined with a hop-on hop-off bus tour of Hobart.
  • Most of the park is outdoors, so wear comfortable shoes and dress accordingly.
  • The park has a café, picnic areas, and a children’s playground.
  • The park is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

How to Get There

Zoodoo Wildlife Park is located just outside of Richmond, about a 30-minute drive north of Hobart. There is no public transport to the park, but it is a stop on some hop-on hop-off tours of Hobart.

When to Get There

The wildlife park is open daily from 9am to 5pm, year-round. It’s worth timing your visit with the daily schedule of zookeeper talks and animal feedings. The park gets busy at weekends and during school holidays, especially over summer—a weekday visit outside of school periods is the best time to avoid the crowds.

Zoodoo Wildlife Park or Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary

Just a 10-minute drive from Zoodoo Wildlife Park, Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary is another popular attraction for animal lovers visiting Hobart. While Zoodoo has a variety of animals from around the world, at Bonorong, the focus is on rescuing and rehabilitating native Australian and Tasmanian wildlife. Visitors can learn about the park’s Wildlife Rescue Service, see Tasmanian devils, wombats, echidna, and other animals during guided tours (included), and admire the free-roaming resident kangaroos.
