Jack’s Point Golf Course
McAdam Drive, Jack's Point, Queenstown, Otago, 9371
Whether you’re looking for a casual or a competitive round of golf, courses don’t come much more scenic than Jack’s Point Golf Course outside Queenstown. The 18-hole, par-72 course is on the shore of Lake Wakatipu, treating players to views of the Remarkables range of the Southern Alps. The on-site restaurant Jack’s serves breakfast, lunch, coffee, and bar snacks.
The basics
While Queenstown may be better known for its rugged, untamed natural landscapes, the beautifully manicured Jack’s Point Golf Course manages to blend into its surroundings while creating a championship-level golf experience. The course incorporates tussock grasslands, rocky outcrops, and native bush, demonstrating that multiday backpacking adventures aren’t the only way to get back to nature around Queenstown. Experienced golfers typically visit the course independently for a round of golf with their friends.
Things to know before you go
Complete a booking request form online to reserve a time to play golf. A staff member will get back to you within 24 hours in-season (or 48 hours off-season).
You’ll pay reduced rates if you return for a “replay round” within 10 days of your first round.
All bookings include the use of a golf cart. Shoes and clubs can be rented.
All players must have a current handicap and be prepared to show a handicap certificate if requested. This isn’t the place to try golf for the first time.
How to get there
Jack’s Point Golf Course is about a 20-minute drive south of Queenstown, and a 10-minute drive from Queenstown Airport. From Queenstown, drive to Frankton, then head south along the Southern Scenic Route/State Highway 6 until you see the turnoff to Jack’s Point at Maori Jack Road. You also can take a bus from Frankton Hub to Jack’s Point.
When to get there
The golf course is open seven days a week in season, from early morning until early evening. It’s closed on Christmas Day and for maintenance at times in winter. Check the website for up-to-date closure information. The restaurant also is open seven days, from early morning to mid-evening.
Jack of Jack’s Point
Jack’s Point is more than a golf course: It’s a 3,000 acre (1,200 hectare) development on land named after a local Maori station hand, Jack Tewa, who was the first person to find gold in the nearby Arrow River, in 1862. In the same year, he rescued several people from a shipwreck on Lake Wakatipu. Spare Jack a thought during your round of golf at Jack’s Point.
