POINT OF INTEREST

Jalavihar Water Park

PV Narasimha Rao Marg, Hyderabad, Telangana, 500063

On the banks of Hussain Sagar, the sprawling Jalavihar water park features multiple pools and slides along with a variety of rides for the whole family. It's a great place to go to keep kids happy on sweltering summer days and features attractions geared towards visitors of all ages, including the smallest of children.

The Basics

Although Jalavihar is known primarily as an aquatic attraction, it's more of a hybrid amusement and water park. Water features include pools of varying depths, a variety of slides (including a pendulum that sends sliders back and forth), and a rain-dance area. Rides include bumper cars, a trampoline bungee, a kids’ train, and a mechanical bull. There are also plenty of food stalls throughout the park, along with an event space for rent.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Jalavihar is a great place for families with kids looking to cool off.

  • Men must wear swimsuits, trunks, or beach shorts. Women must wear swimsuits or leggings with T-shirts. Swimwear is also available for rent.

  • Female visitors may feel more comfortable wearing a T-shirt over their swimsuits, as this is the norm in most of India.

  • Outside food and drink is not allowed, but food is available for purchase on-site.

  • Jalavihar water park is wheelchair-accessible.

How to Get There

Jalavihar is situated on the northwestern edge of Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad. The entrance is right on Necklace Road, about a 15-minute walk north of the Necklace Road commuter railway station. However, it's easiest reached by taxi or auto rickshaw. The journey from the Charminar in the heart of the city takes about half an hour, traffic permitting.

When to Get There

The water park is open daily throughout the year, from late morning until evening. It's a year-round attraction, and it can be fun to visit during the rainy season from June through September. If you really want to cool off, come during the hottest months of April and May; the park also operates a carnival during this time.

Hussain Sagar

The park looks over Hussain Sagar, a large, man-made lake that separates Hyderabad from the corporate suburb of Secunderabad. It was built in the 16th century by the Golconda ruler Ibrahim Qutb Shah Wali and has been instrumental in keeping the city hydrated ever since. A statue of the Buddha has stood on a rock at the heart of the lake since 1992.
