One of the former homes of celebrated Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, La Sebastiana is a fantastic place to get a peek into the poet's life, while taking in views of vibrant Valparaiso. The basics
Step inside this hilltop home and you'll find books and sculptures from the poet's private collection. The house is decidedly nautical, with lots of marine decorations and windows designed to resemble the skylights of a ship. It’s among Valparaíso’s major attractions, and many tours stop here, including Valparaíso-specific tours and tours that include visits to nearby Viña del Mar.

There’s discounted admission for students and Chilean citizens over age 60.
There are steps in the house and the attraction is not wheelchair-accessible.
How to get there
La Sebastiana is located in the hills of Valparaíso, about a 10-minute drive from the waterfront, and most city tours include private transport or public transportation tickets. Bus 514 and 516 will take you close to the house, though many travelers prefer to head up to the hills by funicular and then walk the rest of the way.
When to get there
La Sebastian museum house is open during the day from Wednesday through Sunday between March and December, and from Tuesday through Sunday in January and February. Weekends usually get more crowds, though weekdays do get school groups. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis so arrive early to guarantee you'll get in.
Neruda's Other Houses
Along with La Sebastiana, there are two other Neruda houses in Chile, each with its own unique look and feel. The Isla Negra Museum House is in El Quisco and offers beautiful views of the sea, while whimsical La Chascona is in the capital of Santiago. Both are accessible to the public, without any reservation, and like La Sebastiana, both are closed on Mondays.
