LagOmar
Calle los Loros 2, Nazaret, Lanzarote, 35539
LagOmar is a museum, restaurant, bar, and hillside residence designed by local artists and architects César Manrique and Jesus Soto. Formerly owned by actor Omar Sharif—until he lost it in a bet playing a card game—visitors flock to see the building’s distinctive architecture with rock gardens, secret tunnels, and spectacular views.
Things to know before you go
- There’s a restaurant and bar at LagOmar, so you can have lunch and enjoy the views.
- Be sure to wear comfortable shoes (not flip-flops), as there are a lot of stairs.
- The multi-layered nature of the site and many steps mean it’s not suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility.
- There’s an on-site car park if you’re visiting by car, plus toilet facilities.
How to get there
LagOmar is located in the village of Nazaret in the center of Lanzarote, between Teguise and Tahiche. It takes roughly 15 minutes to drive there from the capital city of Arrecife, using the LZ-1 road, then the LZ-10 from Tahiche, and the Calle Las Perdices road in Nazaret. You can also get the 52 bus from Biblioteca Publica Vuelta in Arrecife to Nazaret Ida, but it’s around a 20-minute walk from Nazaret Ida bus stop to LagOmar.
When to get there
Thanks to Lanzarote’s mild climate, LagOmar is open for visitors year-round. If traveling independently and not on a guided tour, it's best to visit in the morning—close to opening time, or late in the afternoon. This helps you to avoid peak crowds, as the building has lots of narrow hallways and steps, so it can get crowded.
