Day tours and shore excursions to the Tierra del Fuego National Park typically set out from Ushuaia and are sure to include a visit to Lapataia Bay. Climb up to Lookout Point for a panoramic view over the bay or follow one of the many hiking trails around the lakeside, passing peat bogs, pebble beaches, and river crossings. One of the most popular activities is a kayaking or canoeing excursion, and paddling around the bay is the best way to spot wildlife. Look out for Patagonian geese, black-browed albatrosses, and steamer ducks, as well as river otters and beavers along the shore.

How to get there
Lapataia Bay is located within the Tierra del Fuego National Park, 15 miles (24 kilometers) west of Ushuaia. Regular buses run to the park from Ushuaia and tours typically include pickup and transfers from Ushuaia hotels.
When to get there
Kayaking around Lapataia Bay is possible from October to April, and this is also the best time for hiking and wildlife watching. Winter visits are possible and although the crowd-free views might be worth it, temperatures can be bitterly cold and options for hiking and outdoor activities are limited.
