Lettl Museum for Surreal Art
Zeuggasse 9, Augsburg, Germany, 86150
Around 500 thought-provoking works by the late Augsburg artist Wolfgang Lettl await at this popular, not-for-profit gallery in the city’s historic center. You’ll also find pieces by his son Florian Lettl—who’s often present at the museum—plus rotating special exhibits from different countries.
The basics
Pay the low admission fee to enter, and use the museum’s audio guide to get the lowdown on the imaginative minds of the Lettl father-and-son artistic duo. Information is provided in both German and English.
While this niche gallery isn’t included on many guided tours, some city tours pass by, offering a little background about the art in their commentary. Self-guided options such as Augsburg scavenger hunts may include a stop outside the museum, too.
Things to know before you go
Allow for about two hours at the museum.
Admission is free for visitors up to 16 years old.
The museum is wheelchair accessible.
Photography is not allowed inside the museum.

For drivers, leave your car in the Bleigässchen parking lot, which is located under the museum.
When to get there

Art museums in Augsburg
The Lettl Museum for Surreal Art is probably the top pick in Augsburg for contemporary works, but there are many other arty attractions to visit in the city. For baroque collections, head to the Schaezlerpalais to check out the State Gallery of Old Masters and the rococo ballroom. Or, you can travel back further in time at the Maximilianmuseum, where goldsmith exhibits and late-Renaissance bronze art await.
