Maho & Mullet Bay
Allow an easy, perfect day on the east coast of Sint Maarten to unfold at Maho Beach and Mullet Bay, two very different beach experiences within walking distance of each other. First, go to Maho to feel the thrill of swimming in the sea as incoming airplanes fly extremely low overhead, then walk to quiet Mullet Bay to sunbathe, snorkel, and play golf.
Giant airplanes cruise at such a low altitude at Maho Beach, it feels like they might land on the sand. A short walk away on Mullet Bay sea grape trees and palms provide shade, snack bar-style restaurants serve barbecue, and huts rent chairs, towels, and snorkeling gear.
Explore Maho Beach and Mullet Bay as part of a guided sightseeing tour (via Jeep, power boat, catamaran, sailboat, or ATV) encompassing both the French and Dutch sides of the island, making stops to sunbathe at Orient Beach, sample the food scene in Grand Case, stroll charming Marigot, and enjoy the sweeping views atop Cole Bay Hill.

Maho Beach and Mullet Bay are both on the Dutch side of Sint Maarten, adjacent to Princess Juliana International Airport. If arriving by cruise, take the free shuttle bus to the beaches. If driving, park around the corner from Sunset Bar and Grill.
Come to Maho Beach early afternoon when the larger planes typically land, but expect crowds at any time of day. In general, the weather on the island is pleasant year-round, with July and August being the warmest months. Deals on hotels and flights may be found during the spring and fall seasons, while migrating humpback whales are seen off the coast February through June.
Straddling the entire length of Philipsburg, Great Bay Beach is one of Sint Maarten’s longest and widest beaches. Along its 2-mile (3.2-kilometer) stretch are lively beach bars, rum shacks, and street carts serving ice-cold beers and some of the city’s best spots for dining and duty-free shopping. Running alongside the beach is a friendly boardwalk, perfect for strolling, cycling, or zipping along on a Segway.
