Mogren Beach
Budva, Montenegro
Squeezed between the Adriatic and steep hillside surroundings covered in thick nature, Mogren Beach carves out a slim space for beachgoers in Budva. A sheer rocky outcrop separates the two halves of the beach, with just a playful wooden bridge through a tunnel linking the two. Sunbeds increasingly fill the limited real estate here, but there are still some spaces to spread out towels and relax.
The basics
Mogren Beach is an ideal candidate for a beach day during your Budva visit, or you can pop over during sightseeing to admire the scenery and see the moody tunnel that joins the beach’s two halves. It’s easy to combine a visit with Budva Old Town, as the two are joined by the Mogren Beach Footway. Boat tours of Montenegro’s coast and local kayak tours may take you past the beach, but are unlikely to stop there.
Things to know before you go
- Several bars and cafés line the back of the beach, for visitors who don’t want to walk back around to the city center.
- Sunbeds are rented in pairs, with a table and umbrella; prices differ depending on which row you get.
- The beach has paid toilets.
- Some bars are known to play loud music, so consider that when picking a spot.
How to get there
Mogren Beach sits west of Budva Old Town and can be reached from the town center by following the Mogren Beach Footway past the Budva Dancing Girl statue. It takes about 10 minutes to walk around the coast to the beach. If you’re driving, there’s a parking lot west of the beaches, with a dirt road leading to the western half of the beach.
When to get there
As with all of Budva’s beaches, expect them to become very popular in the warmer months from June to September. Come early, which generally means before noon, if you want to secure your place, whether you plan to rent sunbeds or find an unoccupied patch of sand. Summer weekends will be busier than weekdays, as Montenegrins come down to the coast for the day.
The beaches in Budva
Mogren Beach is just one Budva beach to know about. Slovenska Beach is the main city beach that runs along Budva’s waterfront past its marina, offering a number of beach bars and a dock where you can watch the sunset. Travel farther from the city center in either direction and you find Jaz Beach and Bečići Beach, two of the finest beaches in Montenegro, both of which are less likely to be crammed with people.
