The town is a great launchpad for day trips to Fuerteventura beauty spots such as Jandia National Park, and Corralejo on the northern coast—a larger town with great restaurants and cocktail bars. You can even take the ferry over the sea to Gran Canaria, the largest of the Canary Islands.

Things to know before you go

• Bring all your chargers—Morro Jable is small and you might not find exact replacements for your electronics in a pinch.
• Don’t forget your swimwear—surfing, windsurfing, and catamaran trips are all popular activities here.
• As well as sunscreen, you’ll need a scarf to cover your face from dust and sand if you’re planning on heading into the interior desert, especially on a buggy trip.
• The turtle nursery at Morro Jable is a popular destination—check its opening times before you set off as it can close at short notice.

How to get there

The easiest way to get to Morro Jable is by direct private transfer from El Matorral Airport. Drivers typically meet you at arrivals and help you with your luggage—not to mention the cool air conditioning that’s a must in the hot summer season. If you’re hiring a car, it’s a simple drive. Just take the FV-2 all the way along the southwest coast.

When to get there

It can get very hot in Morro Jable in the summer—if that’s your bag, head to the beach during July and August. If you’re more prone to sunburn, April through early June is better, or a later holiday in September is just as pleasant. Morro Jable is popular enough with tourists to be active during the off-season though too, and some hotels even have Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Water sports in Morro Jable

Morro Jable’s location right by the ocean on the southern peninsula of Fuerteventura is an enviable water sports destination. The beaches are clean, and so long that you can pitch up your beach towel and parasol and not see another soul for the whole day. It’s also a haven for more adventurous travelers, and if you’re interested in a more active holiday, there are plenty of surf schools, windsurfing classes, snorkeling and diving opportunities, and even sailing lessons.
