How to get there
Mount Mercedario is best to visit on a guided excursion. The mountain itself is located in the Andes of western Argentina, near the border of Chile. Most travelers stay in the town of Barreal, 4 hours from Mendoza, to adjust to the elevation before beginning the climb.
When to get there
Travel to Argentina is popular from October through April. Visitors who are interested in wine often plan a trip to coincide with the annual harvest months of late February, March, and April. The spring months of October and November are also known for pleasant temperatures.

One of the draws for climbing Mount Mercedario is the opportunity for wildlife spotting. Expect to see condors, guanacos, and hares, among other animals, during the climb.
