Museo Histórico UNC

Córdoba, The Pampas

Dedicated to the history and culture of the UNESCO-listed Jesuit Block (Manzana Jesuítica) in Cordoba’s historic center, the Museo Histórico UNC traces more than 400 years of history of Argentina’s oldest university. Exhibitions range from the grand 19th-century Graduation Hall to a collection of antique books dating from the 17th century.

The basics

The Museo Histórico UNC offers both self-guided and guided tours. Self-guided tours can be downloaded to your phone, featuring audio narration and images of objects within the museum collection, or you can collect a printed version from the museum’s collection. Guided tours are offered in English and Spanish daily, but you must request a place on an English tour at least 24 hours before your visit—an email address is listed on the museum’s website for tour requests. Tours typically last 60 minutes.

The museum is also often featured on tours of the Historic Center of Cordoba, which usually covers highlights such as Iglesia de Los Capuchinos, famous for its neo-Romanesque architecture.

Things to know before you go

  • There’s a small admission fee to enter the museum.
  • If attending a guided tour in Spanish, arrive five minutes before the start time.
  • Free admission is offered to all on Wednesdays, plus daily to visitors with disabilities, children under the age of 7, and seniors who are Argentine residents.

How to get there

Museo Histórico UNC is conveniently located in Cordoba Historical Center; it’s a 5-minute walk from the bustling hub of Plaza San Martin via 27 de Abril road. The nearest bus stop is Av. Veléz Sarsfield 372, which is served by bus routes 61, 63, and 65.

When to get there

Museo Histórico UNC is open from Monday to Saturday and is closed on Sundays. Opening hours are typically from 9.30am to 5.30pm from Monday to Friday, with earlier closing at 2.30pm on Saturdays and public holidays; hours are subject to change, so it’s best to check its website before your visit. English tours typically take place daily at 10am, but places must be reserved in advance.

The best museums in Cordoba

Museo Histórico UNC isn’t the only museum worth visiting in this culture-rich Argentine city. Other interesting institutions include the Evita Fine Arts Museum (Museo Superior de Bellas Artes Evita), where you can see more than 400 works in the grandiose Palacio Ferreyra, and the Faro Museum Emilio Caraffa, with its selection of modern art.
