The Basics

This museum is housed in a colonial building that was Nehru's residence for years. The exhibits are the star attractions, but visitors should also check out the building architecture and furnishings. Many of the rooms in the house were left as they were at the time of Nehru’s death. The planetarium is fun for kids and adults, with night-sky shows in Hindi and English. How to Get There

The Nehru Museum is located in the heart of leafy central Delhi, southwest of India Gate and a 20-minute walk south of the Rashtrapati Bhavan (Presidential Palace). Connaught Place is a 10-minute drive or auto rickshaw ride away. It's just under a 20-minute walk to the Udyog Bhawan metro station or the Lok Kalyan Marg station, both of which are on the Yellow Line of the Delhi metro.

When to Get There

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm, and tends to be busiest on weekends. The planetarium here runs shows from 11:30 to 3pm, plus additional shows on Sundays and holidays, but it's a good idea to check specifics ahead of time, as times can change and some shows are only offered in Hindi.

The Nehru-Gandhi Family

India's best-known political family, the Nehru-Gandhis, have been actively involved in politics for generations. Jawaharlal Nehru, his daughter Indira Gandhi, and her son Rajiv Gandhi have all served as Prime Minister of India. Rajiv's widow, Italian-born Sonia Gandhi, and her son Rahul are active in the Indian National Congress party to this day.
