POINT OF INTEREST

Oualie Beach

Nevis, Nevis

With its calm, shallow waters and its lovely views of St. Kitts, Oualie Beach is one of the most popular beaches on Nevis, especially for swimming and watching the sunset from the charming beachfront bar. Enjoy water sports and have a meal while soaking up the local culture.

The Basics

From Charlestown, walk or drive to Oualie Beach during the day to sunbathe, swim, and snorkel. Less rocky than most of the other beaches on Nevis, families with small children will especially enjoy being here. On the north end of the beach, you’ll find the Oualie Beach Resort where you may enjoy cocktails and a light meal — along with hammocks and lounge chairs as long as you are there. Small kiosks offer gear for snorkeling, scuba, and wind sailing.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Oualie Beach is an ideal spot for families.
  • Watersports, lounge chairs and hammocks are available at the Oualie Beach Resort.
  • Restrooms may be found at the restaurant/bar.
  • Those in wheelchairs are able to approach the beach.

How to Get There

Oualie Beach is located on the northwestern tip of Nevis, about 10-minute drive from Charlestown. Drive east on Government Road, turn left onto Pinneys Road and keep going straight. Watch for signs to Oualie Beach Resort and make left. Parking is available at the hotel. No public transportation options are available.

When to Get There

The beach is open daily. Come either in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. For snorkeling, come early in the morning when sealife is the most active. Nevis’s peak season runs from December to April; the rainy season runs from July to November. Be aware that the beach may be closed due to flooding or hurricanes.

Lovers Beach

From Oualie Beach, drive north past Hurricane Hill until you see a sign on the left that says, “Sea Heaven Beach,” though locals know the location as Lovers Beach, and walk down a wooden plank trail to this peaceful deserted beach. Since it’s more on the Atlantic side, the waves are higher and the water is cooler. From April to November, leatherback turtles and hawksbills nest on the dunes.
