Parque del Café
Colombia
Amusement park rides bring color and excitement to Parque del Café, a theme park about coffee and Colombian culture in the department of Quindío. Set up among the region’s coffee plantations, Parque del Café celebrates its subject through museum exhibits, interactive experiences, and performances. Fun and thrills surround the site’s educational core, making the most of the park’s lush hillside scenery.
The basics
With one of the main hurdles to visiting Parque del Café being its remote location, tours are available that handle the transportation from towns and cities in Quindío. Expect to spend most of the day there, allowing plenty of time for learning about the region’s coffee and having some fun on its rides.
Even with height limits for entry to some of the park’s offerings, families will find plenty of rides to keep kids happy. There are also other activities available for people looking to take things easy, including cable cars, train rides, and nature walks.
Things to know before you go
- Credit cards are accepted for payment at the park.
- Near the park entrance is an Accessible Attention Point where visitors can receive specific advice for their accessibility needs.
- Amenities include luggage storage, restaurants, first aid, and the loaning of wheelchairs and strollers.
- Height restrictions apply for many rides and attractions, but children under 3 feet tall (90 centimeters) enter the park for free.
How to get there
Parque del Café is located outside the city of Armenia in Quindío in western Colombia. It takes about 30 minutes to drive there from Armenia, first heading to the town of Montenegro, and then following the La Tebaida-Montenegro Road. Buses from the Armenia Bus Terminal Station and downtown area stop at Parque del Café en route to Pueblo Tapao, while tours with transportation included are an option as well.
When to get there
Opening hours for Parque del Café vary during the year, but the theme park is often closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The rest of the week, it follows regular business hours. It’s best to avoid weekend visits and going in January, as the park gets busiest then. Visit in December, February, and between July and September, for the driest weather.
Exploring Colombia’s coffee heritage
Parque del Café is just one of several places in Quindío devoted to Colombia’s coffee culture. Salento, a town not far from Armenia, is best known for the tall palm trees in the nearby Cocora Valley, but it’s also home to coffee estates and farms, where visitors can take tours to learn more about this local industry. PANACA near Quimbaya is another theme park that revolves around the region’s coffee and farming.
