POINT OF INTEREST

Parque Sarmiento

Av. Poeta Leopoldo Lugones, Cordoba, Argentina

The largest landscaped space in Córdoba, Parque Sarmiento is hailed as the Argentine city’s green lung. Recreational and cultural opportunities abound here, whether you want to row a boat on the artificial lake, go skating on the rink, visit the Greek theater, browse museums, or wander nature trails winding through flower beds and over streams.

The basics

Other highlights of the park include the Bicentennial Lighthouse, which is one of the city’s symbols; the Córdoba Cultural Center, famous for its wave-like modern architecture; and the Mirador Panorámico Paseo del Coniferal, with a 100-step staircase leading to a monument and views of the forests. Thanks to its large size, you’re bound to at least pass by Parque Sarmiento on sightseeing tours of Cordoba.

Things to know before you go

  • There are water fountains and public restrooms in the park.

  • Parque Sarmiento is great for kids, as it’s home to multiple playgrounds, a skate park, tennis courts, and other areas for sports.

  • Bring your bathing suit, since there’s an Olympic-sized swimming pool in the park.

  • While the park is free to enter, specific attractions inside it have different admission fees.

How to get there

Buses 28D, 28F, 28H, and 28I all stop right outside Parque Sarmiento. The park is so large that several bus stops run along its perimeter, so choose where to hop off depending on which section you want to visit. Rideshare apps such as Uber are also popular in Córdoba.

When to get there

While the park is open 24 hours a day, specific locations inside of it keep different opening hours. Most of the site is best for daytime, but there are also bars and restaurants inside the park, which are great for an evening visit.

Dante’s connection to Parque Sarmiento

Due to its large population of Italian immigrants, Argentina has many links to Italian culture, and Córdoba is no exception. In the eastern part of the park, you’ll find the Mirador Panorámico El Dante. If you climb to the top, you’ll be rewarded with a sculpture based on the Divine Comedy, as well as sweeping views of the park.
