POINT OF INTEREST

Patios de San Basilio

40 C. San Basilio, Córdoba, Spain, 14004

Patios de San Basilio in Cordoba is a collection of beautifully decorated courtyards renowned for their vibrant flower displays and traditional Andalusian architecture. Visitors flock here, especially during the Fiesta de los Patios in May, to explore the charming, privately-owned spaces, admire the colorful blooms, and experience local culture. In fact, the Fiesta de los Patios is recognized for its living heritage by UNESCO.

The basics

Book a private or small-group tour and stroll through the streets past the picturesque patios—filled with mainly geraniums and carnations—in the San Basilio district of Cordoba. While you can explore the area independently, a guided walking tour will offer insight into this Andalusian tradition and the Moorish influence on the construction of the courtyards. Wine and olive oil tastings are also offered along the route.

Things to know before you go

  • If you explore on your own, you will need to purchase a ticket to access the courtyards.

  • The San Basilio neighborhood is also known as the Alcázar Viejo.

  • You’ll also find traditional artisan workshops and restaurants serving Cordoban cuisine in this district.

How to get there

From Cordoba's city center or La Mezquita, it’s a 10-15 minute walk through the historic district to the San Basilio neighborhood. The area is pedestrian-friendly with limited vehicle access. You can also take the hop-on, hop-off bus to nearby stops like Puerta de Almodóvar or San Basilio; from there, it’s a quick walk to the Patios de San Basilio.

When to get there

The best time to visit the Patios de San Basilio is during the Fiesta de los Patios in May, when the courtyards are open to the public and decorated with vibrant flowers. It’s also possible to visit at other times of year, but check the schedule in advance to see when the patios are open.

Calleja de las Flores

Similar to the Patios de San Basilio, Cordoba’s Calleja de las Flores (Alley of the Flowers) showcases the city’s love of colorful blooms, which pop against the whitewashed walls of the narrow passageway. It also boasts a unique view of the bell tower of La Mezquita (the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba).
