Pavillon de Vendôme
13 Rue de la Molle, Aix-en-Provence, France, 13100
Dating back to the 17th century, the Pavillon Vendôme is a stately, 3-story structure surrounded by manicured gardens. It served as a residence (and, for a spell, as a Catholic boarding school) before it was ultimately transformed into the art exhibition space of today.
The basics
The gardens of the Pavillon alone merit a visit, and feature carefully landscaped pathways, topiary, and fragrant flowers from Provence and beyond. The building's exteriors are equally worthy of checking out; they feature a mix of classic and Doric styles and intricately carved decorative sculptures. Inside you'll find gorgeous architectural elements, including a grand staircase, and a large collection of art and decorative objects. Pre-purchase an Aix-en-Provence City Pass for free admission.
Things to know before you go

How to get there
The Pavillon Vendôme is on the western end of the city center, about a 10-minute walk from Place Bellegarde and 20 minutes on foot from the main railway station. Numerous city buses, including lines 110, 120, 140, and 260, stop nearby at the Silvacane stop, less than five minutes away on foot.
When to get there
The Pavillon Vendôme is open every day of the week except for Tuesdays from morning until early evening; it’s closed on May 1st. Note that the museum closes for lunch for one hour in the early afternoon. If possible, plan your visit for the first Sunday of the month, when admission is free (but arrive early to beat the crowds).
Visiting the Musée Granet
Art fans and Aix-en-Provence City Pass holders won’t want to miss the Musée Granet, with its large collection of European paintings and sculptures dating from medieval times to the 20th century. The museum has a fine collection of works from Provencal artists, and a second annex building showcasing the massive collection of Jean Planque, which features works from the likes of Cezanne, Monet, Van Gogh, and Degas.
