Pirangi Cashew Tree (Cajueiro de Pirangi)

The Pirangi Tree is a record holder—at 500 yards (457 meters) in circumference, it’s the largest cashew tree in the world. To put that into perspective, it’s the same size as 70 cashew trees. The Pirangi Tree has been its own forest for many years, and visitors can collect cashews from it as they wander underneath its ancient branches.
The basics
A specially built observation deck 11 yards (10 meters) high in the canopy of the Pirangi Tree gets you closer to the intricate branch network. Each separate “tree” is actually a branch from the original tree. Those branches took root in the nearby ground and grew up into additional trunk systems. You can walk among each of these parts of the Pirangi Tree, and see how this seemingly separate forest of trees is actually one interconnected lifeform.

The Pirangi Tree isn’t far from Pirangi Beach—visit both in one day.
The tree fruits for a long season, and visitors are welcome to pick and eat its cashews.

How to get there
The Pirangi Tree is a short walk from Pirangi Beach and is easily accessible from the city of Natal via the southbound Rota do Sol highway. Hire a bicycle and travel along the safe roads to reach the park where the tree is situated, or organize a prebooked transfer direct from your hotel or accommodation.
When to get there
The Pirangi Cashew Tree can be visited when the park is open, 8am–5pm, although many of the local craft stalls and shops do not open until 9am, so visit later in the day for a fuller experience. The park can get busy on Sundays and in the early afternoons.
