Poda Island (Koh Poda)

The Basics

The island is only accessible by boat. The easiest way to visit Poda Island is on a day trip from Krabi. Island-hopping tours, which typically use either time-saving speedboat or traditional longboat, usually also visit the caves of Phra Nang Beach, Railay Beach, Tup Island (Koh Tup), and Chicken Island, so-called because of its rocky resemblance to the bird.

Things to Know Before You Go

• Thanks to a remote location, Poda Island (Koh Poda) provides a tranquil escape from the crowded beaches of Krabi.

• There’s only one guesthouse and a handful of restaurants and snack bars on the island; ensure you bring cash as most vendors don’t accept cards.

• There are no facilities on either the boats or beaches to accommodate travelers using wheelchairs and strollers.

How to Get There

From Ao Nang Beach, it takes around 30 minutes to reach Koh Poda by traditional longboat, the most cost-effective mode of transport. Taking a speedboat reduces the time by half and proves ideal if you’re on a time budget.

When to Get There

The best time to visit Krabi is between November and February, when blue skies are almost guaranteed. Though you’ll have to jostle with the highest concentration of crowds, the weather is worth it. To be in one of the first boats to arrive at the beaches, opt for an early morning tour.
