Prades Mountains
Tarragona, Spain, 43364
Part of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range, the Prades Mountains (known locally as the Muntanyes de Prades) are a recognizable massif located just north of Tarragona in Catalonia. Known for its distinctive silhouette, the massif comprises several lofty peaks, attracting outdoor and fitness enthusiasts and ecotourists.
The basics
Just a quick trip inland from the Catalonian coast, the Prades Mountains are one of the region’s major geological features. The limestone mountain massif comprises numerous peaks, of which the Tossal de la Baltasana, which stands 3,947 feet (1,203 meters) high, is the tallest. The area today features pine and oak forests as well as landmarks ranging from the Poblet Monastery (a UNESCO World Heritage Site established in the 12th century) and the deserted town of La Mussara to the hilltop, centuries-old village of Siurana.
As the Prades Mountains are close to Tarragona and other Catalonian destinations, it’s easy to plan an independent trip.
