You’ll dock at the Marina Vallarta Maritime Terminal, 3 miles (5 kilometers) north of the city center. Taxis line up to take you downtown; negotiate the fare before you head off. Alternatively, cross the street to the Sam's Club, where buses depart for the center—it's preferable to pay with correct change.

The local currency is the Mexican peso, although US dollars are accepted—keep in mind that you'll receive change in pesos and it’s usually cheaper to use pesos rather than US dollars.
