POINT OF INTEREST

Repulse Bay

Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Located on the South Side of Hong Kong Island, Repulse Bay offers a beach resort environment in close proximity to the city. An up-market residential neighborhood with a beautiful, crescent-shaped public beach, and plenty of amenities, Repulse Bay is an easy and popular escape from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.

The Basics

Soak up the sun at Repulse Bay Beach. Enjoy the water or a game of beach volleyball. At the south end of the beach, find a Tin Hau temple with two large statues of Tin Hau and Kwun Yum (Guanyin), as well as a Chinese garden and longevity bridge. There are plenty of options to grab a bite or a drink, or shop, nearby.

A number of Hong Kong sightseeing tours stop here. See top city sites like Victoria Peak, Lan Kwai Fong, and Tsim Sha Tsui, in addition to popular south side attractions like Repulse Bay, Stanley Market, and Aberdeen. Or visit on a hop-on hop-off bus tour to explore Hong Kong attractions at your leisure.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Repulse Bay is ideal for nature and beach lovers.
  • Don't forget your swimsuit, a towel, and sun protection if you plan to enjoy the beach and water.
  • Lifeguards are on duty year-round, though they are sometimes suspended between December and February.
  • Beach amenities include toilets (including accessible toilet), changing rooms, showers, food kiosks, barbeque areas, and restaurants.

How to Get There

Repulse Bay is located on the south side of Hong Kong Island, to the east of Deepwater Bay. Taxis are easy, but expensive. By public transportation, take the MTR to Central Station (Exit A) or Hong Kong Station (Exit D), walk to the Exchange Square bus terminus, then take bus nos. 6, 6A, 6X, 66, or 220. Alternatively, take minibus no. 40 from Jardine’s Bazaar in Causeway Bay.

When to Get There

It’s best to visit Repulse Bay during the summer, though water temperatures around Hong Kong can stay pleasant until November. The beach tends to be busy on weekends and public holidays. Visit later in the day to enjoy stunning sunset views.

Nearby Beaches

Although Repulse Bay is one of the most popular beaches in Hong Kong, there are a number of other beaches to choose from on the south side of Hong Kong Island. Deep Water Bay, Middle Bay, and South Bay all have beaches. Stanley Beach is also quite popular, for its beach, market, and its many bars.
