POINT OF INTEREST

Robertson Quay

Robertson Quay, Singapore

Located on the banks of the Singapore River, Robertson Quay is one of Singapore’s three largest wharfs. The 120-acre (50-hectare) district offers a diverse mix of restaurants, wine bars, and art galleries, in addition to warehouses built in European and Chinese styles.

The Basics

Robertson Quay is the least-visited of Singapore’s quays, making it a good option for travelers seeking a local experience. In addition to numerous restaurants, the neighborhood is home to the Hong San See Temple and the Singapore Tyler Print Institute, which hosts rotating exhibitions of printmaking and paper art. Enjoy views of the quay from cycle paths along the Singapore River on a bike tour or sample the area’s local delicacies on an evening food tour.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Robertson Quay is a hotspot for food and nightlife.

  • Just about all the restaurants and bars in Robertson Quay accept credit cards.

  • Be sure to wear sunglasses and a hat for al fresco dining during daylight hours.

  • The riverside promenade is accessible to travelers with wheelchairs and strollers.

How to Get There

Get to Robertson Quay by taking the Singapore MRT to Clark Quay, Outram, or Chinatown stations. The quay is a 10-minute drive from the popular Orchard shopping district, and is also a stop on Singapore hop-on hop-off bus routes.

When to Get There

There isn’t really a bad time to visit this laidback quay, though it tends to be at its liveliest at night when bars, clubs, and restaurants open their doors. Businesses at the quay maintain their own operating hours, so check ahead if you have a specific location in mind.

Lau Pat Sat Market

While Robertson Quay is best known for its international restaurants, it’s also home to one of Singapore’s most famous hawker centers; Lau Pat Sat Market. The octagonal market, one of the oldest in Singapore, houses more than 200 food stalls that sell affordable hawker fare, including Chinese, Indian, Malay, and Singaporean dishes. The hawker center was also featured in the blockbuster movieCrazy Rich Asians.
