Sariska Tiger Reserve

The Basics

Most visitors to Sariska sign up for a safari in a 4WD Jeep-style vehicle known as a Gypsy. Safaris take around four hours and are led by park staff, who know the park well and have a good idea of where tigers might be hanging out. And even if you don’t spot a tiger, you’ll still get the chance to check out all sorts of flora and fauna, from monkeys to wild boars.

• Sariska is a must-visit for nature lovers.

• Tigers are at their most active during the winter months, but there are no guarantees you will spot one.

• Bring sun protection, bug spray, and plenty of water.

• It’s a good idea to prebook your safari, as a limited number of spaces are available.

How to Get There

The Sariska Tiger Reserve is located on the road between Jaipur and Delhi, about a 2.5-hour drive from Jaipur or 4- to 5-hour drive from Delhi. It can also be visited en route between Jaipur and Agra, home of the Taj Mahal, about a 4-hour drive away. It's not easy to get here by public transportation, so visitors are advised to either take a taxi or come as part of an organized tour.

When to Get There

The tiger reserve is open during the morning hours and again in the afternoon until sunset throughout the year, with guided tiger safaris held first thing in the morning and again first thing in the afternoon. It's best to visit between November and March, when temperatures are more moderate and wildlife (including tigers) is more active.

Other Animals in the Park

While tigers are the big draw here, they are shy creatures, and there’s no guarantee you will see one. However, they certainly aren’t the only creature to call the park home, and visitors often spot everything from nilgai (Asian antelope) and jackals to wild boars, and even caracals, large lynx-like cats with pointy, tufted ears.
