Scone Palace

The basics

The property is made up of sprawling gardens and the palace building itself, where you can see elegantly furnished state rooms and learn about centuries of history on a timed-entry guided tour. Garden tours are also available and are led by the palace’s head gardener. Scone Palace is a popular stop on private and small-group tours of the Scottish Highlands, including multi-night and one-day tours departing from major hubs such as Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Things to know before you go

• The palace and parts of the garden are suitable for travelers using self-propelled wheelchairs, with accessible parking and a wheelchair lift. However, motorized wheelchairs and mobility scooters cannot be accommodated.

• On-site amenities include a coffee shop, restaurant, and gift shop.

• Dogs are welcome on the palace grounds, in the shop, and in the restaurant.

How to get there

Scone Palace is located just north of the center of Perth in central Scotland.You can take the train to Perth Rail Station and then catch a taxi the rest of the way (the drive takes around 10 minutes). Alternatively, you can take Stagecoach bus number 58 from Perth Bus Station or South Street or bus number 3 from South Street.

When to get there

The palace is open daily from the beginning of April until the end of October, except during private events. It's closed from November through April, but the gardens remain open until the middle of December, close for the winter, and then re-open in February. If you want to avoid crowds, visit first thing in the morning on a weekday.

Annual events include the Farming Yesteryear & Vintage Rally, which showcases vintage agriculture machinery, the ’80s-themed Rewind Festival, and Paws at the Palace, a dog-friendly celebration with games, breed parades, agility classes, and more.
