Segovia Cathedral

C. Marqués del Arco 1, Segovia, España, 40001

Towering over the city of Segovia, the 16th-century Segovia Cathedral was the last Gothic cathedral to be built in Spain. Featuring three naves, a dome-covered transept, a massive tower, and 18 interior chapels, the cathedral is an architectural masterpiece and one of the most popular attractions in Segovia.

The basics

As one of the top landmarks in Segovia, the cathedral features on almost all sightseeing tours. Explore the cathedral independently on a self-guided audio tour or a hop-on hop-off bus tour, or opt for skip-the-line admission tickets to save time and explore at your own pace. Guided tours combine the cathedral with other Segovia highlights, such as the Alcazar, Aqueduct, and Plaza Mayor. Others add on a hot-air balloon ride or a tour of Avila, Toledo, or Escorial.

Things to know before you go

  • There’s a fee to visit the cathedral and Episcopal Palace.
  • Guided tours of the cathedral and tower are available and take around one hour each.
  • Free entry is available for children under 8, seniors over 65, and Segovians.

How to get there

Segovia Cathedral is located next to the Plaza Mayor in Segovia. The route 10 bus stops nearby at the Plaza Merced. The hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus also stops nearby. Segovia is easily reachable from Madrid by car and by high-speed Renfe and regular trains. Guided tours from Madrid will include round-trip transportation.

When to get there

Guided cathedral visits are only available Monday through Saturday. Free entry is available on Sundays from 9–10am (April–October) or 9:30–10:30am (November–March) though certain areas will be closed during that time. The cathedral is closed on January 1 and 6, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Corpus Christi, Fuencisla Festival, San Frutos, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve.

Other top Segovia attractions

In addition to Segovia Cathedral, visitors should also plan to visit the Alcazar of Segovia and the Aqueduct. Featuring a mix of architectural styles (and said to have inspired Disney’s Cinderella castle), the Alcazar is one of Spain’s most unique castles, while the 2-story stone Aqueduct dates from the first century and supplied water to Segovia from the Roman Empire through to modern times.
