Slea Head is located 10 miles (16 kilometers) west of Dingle Town and can be reached by car using route R559. Most visitors arrive by rental car or as part of a guided tour of the Dingle Peninsula. The drive also passes through fishing villages and mountainous areas— including Mount Brandon, the second-highest mountain in Ireland.

The most popular time to visit Slea Head and County Kerry, in general, is during the summer months, when the days are long and light lasts well into the evenings. Travelers looking to avoid the crowds may want to choose to visit during the shoulder season, including the spring and fall months.
