Spiaggia di Cala Sinzias
Cala Sinzias, Sardinia, Italy, 09040
With its translucent turquoise waters, a stretch of white sand reaching more than a mile (2 kilometers), and lush hills blanketed with juniper, eucalyptus, olive, and pine trees, Spiaggia di Cala Sinzias is one of dreamiest beaches on Sardinia’s southwestern coastline. Easily accessible by land and sea and protected by two small promontories to the north and south, this idyllic retreat is popular with swimmers and sun-seekers of all ages.
The basics
Set along the idyllic Castiadas coastline, Spiaggia di Cala Sinzias is a highlight of boat tours along the southwestern corner of Sardinia, either departing from Villasimius to the south or Costa Rei to the north. You can also visit the beach by land with a driving tour from Cagliari; there is road access directly to the waterfront for easy logistics. The clear water is shallow near the beach—perfect for families with children—but drops off a bit farther out if swimming, snorkeling, or scuba diving.
Things to know before you go
The beach has full-service beach clubs with rental umbrellas and beach chairs, snack bars, restrooms, showers, and other perks.
There is a large free public area on Spiaggia di Cala Sinzias where visitors can spread out on their own.
The sand can get very hot during the midday heat, so beach shoes can be useful for getting in and out of the water.
Spiaggia di Cala Sinzias is accessible to wheelchairs via a boardwalk.
How to get there
Spiaggia di Cala Sinzias is about an hour by car from Cagliari and there’s free public parking located just beyond the beach, steps from the waterfront. Alternatively, you can take buses 101 or 135, although travel time is typically a couple of hours. The most scenic way to reach the beach is by water with a boat tour from Villasimius or Costa Rei.
When to get there
Despite its large size, this popular beach fills up during the summer high season (June to August); if visiting then, arrive early to stake out the best spots along the water. Temperatures soar by noon, so rent or bring an umbrella for shade if you plan on making a full day of it.
The best beaches on Sardinia’s Castiadas coast
The coastline that hugs Sardinia’s southwest corner is considered one of the most scenic, and there are dozens of beautiful beaches to explore. Spiaggia di Cala Sinzias is one of the easiest to reach, but the nearby coves of Cala Pira and Punta Molentis are also spectacular waterfront retreats. Perhaps the most famous is the endless stretch of beach bordering Simius, from Spiaggia di Is Trais to the north to the southernmost Spiaggia di Porto Giunco.
