St Paul's Cathedral
Flinders Street, Melbourne, Victoria, 3000
Located in the heart of Melbourne, St. Paul’s Cathedral is the only neo-Gothic building among a sea of modern structures in Federation Square. Built between 1880 and 1931 to commemorate the location of Melbourne’s first Christian service back in 1836, St. Paul’s features the 2nd-tallest Anglican spire in the world.
The Basics
You can explore St. Paul’s Cathedral during non-service hours or join the church’s daily service. City tours typically begin in Federation Square, and many discuss the almost 100-year history of St. Paul’s and Christianity in Australia. Interest-specific tours, such as one devoted to photographing Melbourne’s sights and another that literally runs past the city’s most compelling destinations, also include St. Paul’s on their agendas.

St. Paul’s Unique Style
Classified as “Gothic transitional,” St. Paul’s Cathedral is a mix of early English and decorative Gothic styles. The structure features beautiful interiors with Persian tiling on the floors and walls, processional doors, fine stone and brickwork, and intricate mosaics.
