Tallavera Grove

Tallavera Grove is a winery in the town of Cessnock, within the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales. Vines flourish across the 70 acres (28 hectares) of terra rossa clay loam, providing lovely views across the grove. Visitors can sample wines of the Carillion Wines brand at the cellar door tasting room or enjoy a meal at Molines Bistro.

Carillion Wines at Tallavera Grove is a family-owned boutique winery. The warm coastal climate at Tallavera Grove–Cessnock is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the coast–produces lovely semillon, verdelho, chardonnay, shiraz, vermentino, and sagrantino wines. The cellar door is located above Tallavera Grove, so it’s a great place from which to enjoy the views. Molines Bistro, located at Tallavera Grove, serves French-inspired cuisine for lunch and dinner in a charming cottage with outdoor seating. Travelers typically visit independently while checking out the Hunter Valley’s wineries.

How to get there
Tallavera Grove is located just outside Cessnock, a small New South Wales town about 25 miles (40 kilometers) inland from Newcastle. You’ll need your own car to get there. Drive west from Newcastle, following signs to the Hunter Valley and Cessnock.
When to get there
The Carillion Wines cellar door is open Thursday–Monday, from mid-morning until early evening. Molines Bistro is open for lunch Thursday–Monday, for dinner on Friday for group bookings only, and for dinner more generally on Saturday. Reservations are essential.
Hot air ballooning in the Hunter Valley
The Hunter Valley is famous for its vineyards, and one of the best ways of seeing them is from above, in a hot air balloon. Flights depart early in the morning, around sunrise, and float gently over the valley, vineyards, escarpments, and bush for about an hour.
